One of the most common targets for theft is cars, and it’s not only your car being targeted but also what is inside. There are so many ways that thieves can make a profit out of stolen cars and personal possessions but there are steps that can be taken to prevent car thieves from targeting our vehicles.
It’s almost impossible to steal a modern car without first obtaining the keys so it might not be too much of a surprise that, according to the Home Office, 7% of home burglaries involved the taking of a vehicle using keys stolen from the home. Thousands of cars have been stolen in this way, and thieves are targeting up-market cars, but overall the number of cars stolen is falling.
It is not just cars that are being targeted but the contents that are left inside too. Nowadays cars are crammed with technology, from satellite navigation systems and mobile phones, to speed camera detectors and expensive hands-free kits. With the contents of some cars almost equalling the value of the car itself, making sure that any items of value are well hidden from view or preferably taken out of the car when you are not in it. A popular item that thieves target is the satellite navigation device, these are common in almost every car now and thieves know that in every glove box there is the likely to be one lurking so the best thing to do is simply remove it from your car whenever you’re not using it.
A lot of break-ins can be prevented by people removing sat navs, mobile phones and even loose change from view. There are some high quality alarms, immobilisers, steering wheel and gear locks that you can purchase for your car and if you have not got one already then you should probably consider buying one as soon as possible.
Another target for theft recently is number plates and this is really dangerous; failure to report the theft immediately may result in you receiving fines for speeding, filling up with petrol and then fleeing before paying and many other driving-related offences. Make sure that if this happens to you, you report it to the police straight away. Overall we can see how important it is to take note of car security and to make sure that your car is always empty of valuable contents.
Car finance deals are widely available if you need them and you can go online to find the deals on a range of deals including car credit.
